Eleonora Meleti: Key Contribution to Landmark European Ruling on Abortion

The European Commission has made a historic move by recognizing abortion as a fundamental component of healthcare. This decision reaffirms the necessity for safe and legal access, particularly for women residing in member states where abortion remains prohibited.
In this context, the Commission is authorizing all member states to utilize existing EU financial instruments to ensure equitable access to safe and legal reproductive health services across Europe.
This development is the result of the "My Voice, My Choice" European Citizens' Initiative, which successfully brought reproductive health to the forefront as a fundamental human right.
A pivotal factor in this success was the contribution of New Democracy MEP, Eleonora Meleti. Serving as the rapporteur for the European People's Party (EPP), Meleti played a central role in navigating the political landscape. She was instrumental in securing the necessary majority to ensure the resolution moved forward for debate within the European Parliament.
