Turkish fighter jets violate Greek airspace
Six Turkish F-16s flew over four Greek islands on Tuesday violating the country’s airspace, the country’s Hellenic National Defence General Staff said in a press release.
The fighter jets entered Athens FIR in formation at 15.01 (local time) between Lesvos and Chios without submitting a flight plan. The formation was then divided in two groups of four and two jets and flew over the small islands of Fourni and Makronisi-Anthropofagi respectively. The two groups of Turkish jets exited Athens FIR at 15.28 and 15.30, flying over Samos.
The foreign jets were recognized and intercepted by Greek fighters. It is the fourth time this year that Turkish fighter planes fly over these islands – and especially Anthropofagi – following the same procedure and without submitting flight plans.
