TAP awards supply contract to Corinth Pipeworks

TAP -a natural gas pipeline consortium- on Friday announced it has awarded to Corinth Pipelines a contract for the supply of pipes to build the land part of the pipeline, with a length of 495 km.

Ian Bradshaw, chief executive of TAP, expressed his satisfaction over the cooperation with Corinth Pipeworks and their partner, Marubeni Itochu Steel, and noted that the selection of the Greek company as a basic supplier for the pipeline in Greece, ensured employment and will have long-term positive impact in investments to Greece.

Corinth Pipeworks is based in Greece and has subsidiaries in the US, Russia, Cyprus and Poland. Its factory unit in Thisvi, Viotia, has a production capacity of 1.0 million tons annually. Marubeni Itochu Steel is one of the largest steel industries in the world with an annual turnover of 2.1 trillion yen and pre-tax profits of 40 billion euros (2014).

Corinth Pipeworks will begin delivery of steel pipes in 2016 and complete its contract in 2017.

"The signing of this very significant project confirmed Corinth Pipeworks' position among the most significant steel pipe suppliers in the energy sector worldwide," the Greek-listed company said.
