Parliament adopts proposal to cut benefits, privileges to former PMs, parliament heads

Προσθήκη του gazzetta.gr στην Google Greek parliament adopted on Monday a proposal tabled by Parliament President Nikos Voutsis to cut benefits and privileges granted to former prime ministers, Parliament presidents and heads of parliamentary groups, as part of the changes made to the Standing Orders of Parliament to cut costs.
The proposal was approved by all parties except Golden Dawn and foresees, among others, the gradual abolition of the more than 40 revocable employees working for former Parliament presidents, prime ministers and heads of parliamentary groups, as well as the relocation of the offices of those who have not been re-elected MPs to places outside the main building.
“Today we begin a dynamic debate on the Standing Orders of Parliament which will conclude in the summer and will aim at increasing the parliament’s transparency and modernization,” Voutsis told MPs. The procedure is expected to end in 2016.
