Greek stocks end higher for second successive session

Greek stocks continued moving higher for the second successive session on Friday, offering more evidence that the market was finding its balance again after plunging early in the week.

The composite index of the market rose 1.45 pct to end at 676.33 points, off the day’s highs of 682.34 points. The index ended the week with a net loss of 15.20 pct, for a decline of 18.14 pct so far this year, while the bank index plunged 58.09 pct. Turnover was a thin 59.37 million euros. The Large Cap index rose 1.88 pct and the Mid Cap index ended 0.27 pct lower.

GEK Terna (8.90 pct), Coca Cola HBC (7.03 pct), Hellenic Exchanges (6.13 pct) and Titan (5.95 pct) scored the biggest percentage gains among blue chip stocks, while Eurobank (8.20 pct), OTE (4.12 pct), Viohalco (3.32 pct) and Alpha Bank (2.40 pct) suffered the heaviest percentage losses of the day. Among market sectors, Food (7.03 pct), Construction (6.02 pct) and Financial Services (5.13 pct) scored big gains, while Telecoms (4.12 pct), Banks (1.67 pct) and Personal Products (1.43 pct) suffered heavy losses.

Broadly, advancers led decliners by 62 to 29 with another 14 issues unchanged. Selonda (19.72 pct), Kekrops (19.50 pct) and NEL (18.64 pct) were top gainers, while Nikas (19.72 pct), AEGEK (19.35 pct) and Sato (19.33 pct) were top losers.
