Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras urged Greeks so vote ‘no’ in Sunday’s referendum, thus saying ‘no’ to ultimatums, during a big rally in central Athens on Friday night.

“Blackmails have been defeated, people will make history,” Tsipras said, addressing thousands of people who had gathered on Syntagma square, while he expressed his certainty that ‘No’ will win in the upcoming vote. Talking to the crowd, he said the world's eyes are on them, on the place where democracy was born.

He also sent a unity message to the crowd, saying that “whatever we decide on Sunday, on Monday we will have nothing to divide us.”

“Today we don’t protest, today democracy celebrates, democracy is joy, it is salvation, it is a way out and today we celebrate the victory of democracy,” he said and urged Greeks to say a “big and proud ‘no’ to ultimatums.”
