Greek gov't to raise fee on lottery games in place of 23 pct VAT rate on private education

Προσθήκη του gazzetta.gr στην Google The Greek government will replace revenue from scrapped plans to impose 23 pct VAT on private education by raising a fee on lottery games operated by OPAP, according to an agreement reached between Greek authorities and the country’s creditors on Tuesday.
Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos and Economy Minister George Stathakis, speaking to reporters during a news conference, announced that the government will introduce at least one more equivalent measure to cover 100 million euros of the estimated 300 million euros loss resulting from the dropped VAT tax on private education. Tsakalotos said that there were up to three measures currently being examined to cover the 100 million euros, one of which was to introduce a 30-cent additional tax per bottle of wine.
Tsakalotos also said that the Greek government has reached an agreement with the institutions on introducing –gradually- a stricter framework for taxpayers with overdue debts to be included in favorable repayment terms schemes.
