Greek director’s film ‘The Lobster’ leads nominations in British Independent Film Awards
The unconventional love story portrayed in Greek director Yiorgos Lanthimos’ film “The Lobster” received seven nominations from the British Independent Film Awards on Tuesday, just five months after wining the Jury Prize at the 68th Cannes Film Festival.

The movie is nominated in the categories Best British Independent Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay (Lanthimos and Efthimis Filippou), Producer of the Year, Best Male performance for Colin Farrell and Best Male and Female supporting roles for Olivia Colman and Ben Whishaw.

In Lanthimos’ odd story, set in a future not far from now, being single is illegal. People, who for any reason are alone, should be punished. They are arrested and transferred to a hotel, where they must find a partner within 45 days. If they do not succeed, they are converted into an animal of their choice.

Disarmingly romantic and loyal to a particular cinematic style, Yiorgos Lanthimos made his English-language debut with a story written by him and Efthimis Filippou, with whom he has cooperated in the past in three movies.
