Germany ranked second among Greece’s trade partners with a market share of 9.69 pct of Greek exports in the first quarter of 2015, following Italy (with a market share of 14.40 pct), with Bulgaria (6.23 pct), Cyprus (5.55 pct) and the UK (5.30 pct) completing the top five, a report by the Economic and Commercial Affairs office of the Greek embassy in Berlin showed on Tuesday.

Germany ranked first in imports to Greece (excluding oil products) with a market share of 15.25 pct, followed by Italy (10.93 pct), China (9.33 pct), Holland (6.93 pct) and France (6.60 pct).

Bilateral trade between Greece and Germany has a very good long-standing tradition, the report said. Greek exports to Germany fell 1.3 pct to 432 million euros in the January-March period, from 438 million in the first quarter of 2014 and 435 in the same period in 2013. German exports to Greece grew 8.0 pct in the first quarter to 1.238 billion euros, from 1.146 billion in 2014 and 1.103 in 2013.

The volume of bilateral trade in the first quarter grew 5.4 pct to 1.670 billion euros, up from 1.584 billion in 2014 and 1.539 billion in the first quarter of 2013. The trade deficit in bilateral trade grew significantly by 13.7 pct to 805 million euros this year, from 708 million in 2014 and 668 million in 2013.
