PASOK leader calls on PM to resolve problems with Parliament president
PASOK leader Fofi Gennimata on Friday sent a letter to Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras urging him to take action to resolve the situation created by Parliament President Zoi Konstantopoulou's open opposition to the course adopted by the government.

"The circumstances demand that you personally provide an immediate solution, in the most fitting way," Gennimata said.

"PASOK will support an institutionally and historically responsible choice, which will help in the normalisation of our parliamentary but also our democratic life and allow us to focus and dedicate our attention to the grave problems facing Greece and its citizens," she added.

Gennimata extensively criticised the way that Konstantopoulou had exercised her role as Parliament president, especially her "desire to intervene, comment and even interrupt speakers." This had culminated in her recent constant "dissension" to decisions of national importance, based on her own interpretation of procedures and situations, Gennimata added.

"I do not want to expand on the unprecedented issue of [her] radical disagreement to a central government policy choice, also apparently raised by you, since the institutional problem is clearly evident," PASOK's leader said. Gennimata also objected to Konstantopoulou's statements that the government was acting not as a sovereign but under duress, saying that her party could no longer stay silent.
