The government considers that it has an obligation to seek common ground with the other political forces on the issue of reforming Greece's pension system, given that such measures are by definition long term and in view of the negotiations with the institutions, government spokeswoman Olga Gerovasili said on Thursday.

Gerovasili made the statement while announcing that Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras had asked President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos to convene a meeting of the political party leaders in Parliament when the president returns from Rome.

The meeting will also serve as a briefing on the refugee crisis, following the prime minister's talks with foreign officials.
