Handling refugees, developments in Syria dominate EU council talks, says FM Kotzias
“We talked about the refugee issue and the need for there to be a common European foreign policy that ensures the implementation of international laws and the implementation of European values and the European acquis,” Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Kotzias, said after the meeting.
He said ministers also discussed the need to provide assistance to states that are playing an important role, such as like Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey, where Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Kotzias will be visiting on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Concerning Syria, Kotzias said that though the process has been completed, “there are certain indications that there will be peace in Syria, at least between the conflicting sides that are not among the terrorists.”
