The Greeks are among the hardest workers in the world, according to a report of the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in 2014.

More specifically, the Mexicans are first with 2,228 working hours a year, corresponding to approximately 42.85 hours a week on average. Costa Rica holds the second place with 2,216 hours per year and 42.62 hours per week, the Koreans are in the third position with 2,124 hours per year, or 40.85 hours a week and the Greeks in the fourth place with 2,042 hours per year and 39.27 hours a week followed by the Chileans, with 1,190 hours per year and the Russians with 1,985 hours.

The last positions are held by the Dutch, the Norwegians, the Danes. The Germans hold the 36th place with 1,371 hours per year, corresponding to 26.37 hours per week. The French work 1,473 hours per year and 28.33 per week compared to the Americans who work 34.30 hours per week.

However, according to an article published in Fortune magazine, a new trend is being established worldwide for the reduction of working hours, as there are studies that link excessive working hours with lower efficiency of the employees. Sweden has already adopted that theory and it is about to establish a maximum of 30 hours of work per week.
