Greek power distribution operator cut electricity to 15,000 customers in one month
Greek power distribution agency DEDDIE has cut electricity in 15,000 households in the past 15 days, following orders by power utility PPC, which is hardening its stance for those who have accumulated debts towards the company.
The president and CEO of DEDDIE, Nikos Hatziargyriou, said on Wednesday orders to cut power to customers reached the record levels of 100,000 in the last month, from 60,000 to 70,000 which was the previous high about 5 years ago. He also said that due to the large volume of orders, the operator has asked for more technical crews to perform the cuts.
DEDDIE has also asked to tighten legislation for power stealing, a phenomenon that has intensified in recent years even by consumers which appear to have a significant financial standing.
