PPC management meets Greek MEPs on free CO2 emission certificates
Public Power Corporation's (PPC) management expressed the company's demand for free emission certificates of carbon dioxide to Greece as of 2016 at a meeting with Greek MEPs who were also briefed on the company's positions regarding the liberalization of the electricity market.
Regarding granting free allowances CO2, the president of the company pointed out that this will provide incentives for investment and environmental upgrading by replacing old plants with modern ones that will be more efficient.
The goal is the lignite production to remain at 35 percent in the next 20 years for the security of supply. He also stressed that free certificates are a central issue for the price reduction in electricity since otherwise, he said, "the cost of electricity will be skyrocketed and lignite production will be discredited, thereby compromising the security of the country supply."
