The Greek government should minimize the state’s waste to improve its finances instead of increasing VAT in private education, Potami party said in a press release on Monday, commenting on the conflicting statements and backpedalling of government officials on the issue.

The party noted that SYRIZA had initially supported the measure, claiming it would hit higher incomes, when it is actually poorer households who send their children to private tutoring classes. “Reducing ongoing state waste leaves much room for solutions, on condition that they want to [cut waste],” it said.
