Businessman Liakounakos receives extension to testify on Friday

Businessman Thomas Liakounakos, who was arrested on Monday in relation to the armaments procurement case, asked and received an extension to testify on Friday to the corruption investigator.

Liakounakos was arrested on Monday following an arrest warrant on the charges of bribery and money laundering.

The charges refer to an illegal amount of approximately 1.6 million euros that was allegedly distributed with final recipients convicted former Defence minister Akis Tsohatzopoulos in connection with a contract signed in 2001. The contract referred to the supply of four surveillance systems for Embraer aircrafts by Ericsson.

Liakounakos was also sent to court together with 17 other suspects for the case of acquisition by the Greek army of SONAK systems which were made by his company.
