UNICEF's executive director Anthony Lake made a call on Friday for measures in order to protect the children of migrants and refugees.

It is estimated that at least one quarter of those seeking refuge in Europe are children. During the first six months of 2015 more than 106,000 children sought asylum in Europe.

Lake is asking, among others, for the following measures: protection of children of refugees and migrants by providing essential services at all times-including health care, nutrition, emotional support and oriented education, the provision of a sufficient number of qualified experts for child welfare to support children and their families, the constant search and rescue operations at sea and on land and ensuring the best interests of children in decisions concerning them.
