SYRIZA's Gerovasili counters Meimarakis claim of stalled public projects, says SYRIZA will fight within EU
SYRIZA spokeswoman Olga Gerovasili attacked New Democracy leader Vangelis Meimarakis during an interview with the radio station 'Athina 9.84' on Tuesday, in response to his speech the previous day. She accused Meimarakis of lying when he blamed SYRIZA for stalled public works on the Ionian Road.

"All the major and stalled projects have the stamp of ND," she said, "it is provocative for Mr. Meimarakis to talk about them." She noted that the Thessaloniki undersea tunnel and the Thessaloniki metro were two such projects with clauses costing hundreds of millions that were stalled under ND, while construction on the Ionian Road was continuing with funding secured by SYRIZA's government.

She repeated that SYRIZA aims was a single-party majority and said the party "will not permit, to the extent that the Greek people puts faith in us, a return to the old ways."

Post-election cooperation will be based on commonly acceptable policy positions, Gerovasili clarified, noting that SYRIZA did not put its ideological purity but the needs of the Greek people first.

She said the agreement with Greece's creditors must be implemented, while at the same time struggling for "the major issue, which is the debt, in order to give breathing room for the future" and also striving for the measures that SYRIZA will present during the pre-election period.

"We are a party of the European Left and we fight within the European Union," she added.
