In an announcement on Wednesday, 14 members of SYRIZA's 'Platform 2010' group expressed their support for the actions taken by the government, including its decision to sign a memorandum with the country's creditors and its resort to snap elections.

"The Tsipras government kept the country alive and set in motion its exit from the 'clashing rocks' of the crisis," the announcement said, expressing support for "SYRIZA's attempt for a majority left government."

"Contrary to the irresponsible policy of a so-called 'rupture', of 'all or nothing', of chaos and political opportunism, contrary to the usurping and distortion of the 'No' vote, we the members of the 'Platform 2010' support SYRIZA's attempt to form a majority leftist government," it said.

"It is up to the next government - which we believe will be that of SYRIZA led by Alexis Tsipras - to set a steady course for growth," the statement added.

Among those signing the statement were several MPs and members of SYRIZA's Central Committee and Political Secretariat, and SYRIZA MEP Dimitris Papadimoulis.

The document said that Tsipras' decision to resign and call elections was fully in line with the principles of Parliamentary democracy and that he had been obliged to seek a renewal of his government's mandate from the Greek people.

Those unable to accept this self-evident fact were "those that consider the country's governance a party fief," they added.

"It is hypocrisy to blame the government side for wasting time and placing greater economic burdens on the people while at the same time announcing that you will exhaust the exploratory mandate to the last minute, knowing that there is not the slightest chance that a government will arise from the present composition of Parliament," they said.

Regarding the agreement signed with the creditors, the 14 said that this was patently one-sided but also contained some positive elements that could be used to lead to growth.
