The “murderous memorandums” have no place in civil protection and citizen safety, newly-formed party Popular Unity said in a statement on Sunday, commenting on the wildfire which broke out on Saturday in Rhodes and the successful intervention of the fire department.

“Despite the shortages in operational means, personal protection and equipment, despite the antiquated aerial means, the reductions in salary and cuts in their pension fund contributions, which are a result of the brutal memorandum policies of the last six years, firefighters have exceeded their capabilities putting their very lives at risk and have dealt effectively with all the fires which have broken out to date,” the party said in a statement.
