Fire in Markopoulos, no inhabited areas threatened
A wildfire broke out late on Friday in the east Attica region of Markopoulos but was not threatening any inhabited areas, the fire brigade said.
The fire was burning low-growing vegetation in the region of Merenda and the fire brigade was confident that it would be brought under control within the next few hours.
A force of 35 fire fighters, 15 fire engines, a 17-person team on foot and a helicopter were taking part in the fire-fighting operation.
