'People's struggles will not go to waste,' Tsipras says at event for resistance against junta
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Thursday stressed that the struggles of the people will not go to waste and that the democratic patriotism of those resisting during the seven years of the dictatorship in Greece will be the guide for the country's return to the sovereignty lost as a result of the economic crisis.
"Today, 41 years after the collapse of the foreign-incited dictatorship of the colonels, we honour the fighters that were imprisoned, struggled and sacrificed themselves in order for democracy to return to our country," he said.
Tsipras was speaking at a memorial event to mark the 41st anniversary since the collapse of the 1967-1974 military dictatorship in Greece, organised by the Association of Imprisoned and Exiled Resistance Fighters at Freedom Park.
