Wildfire threatens inhabited areas near Neapolis
Α wildfire that broke out on Friday dawn is currently in full progress at a farming area near Neapolis, southern Greece.

Due to strong winds blowing in the area the blaze took huge dimensions and is currently threatening inhabited areas. The villages of Faraklo, Lahi and Aghios Nikolaos have been evacuated while according to information three houses in Faraklo and an unknown number of houses at the entrance of Lahi village have been burned. There is also information that there are trapped people in the village of Aghios Nikolaos.

A large number of firefighters with 35 fire engines assisted by water-dropping helicopters. The firefighting aircrafts can't operate due to the strong winds.

The blaze is currently very close to the city of Neapolis.

The mayor of Monemvasia Iraklis Trihilis said to ANA-MPA that the condition is extremely difficult due to the strong winds and the wide range of the fire.
