Austria can give its consent to ESM aid to Greece as early as Monday, Parl't office says
Austria can give consent for financial assistance to Greece from the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) as early as next Monday, provided an agreement is reached at the emergency European Council meeting on Sunday night, according to the office of Austrian National Council President Doris Bures on Friday.
It said that a proposal must be decided by the cabinet and then sent to the appropriate Parliamentary Committee, which must then put it to the plenum. This will have to meet in an emergency session, since the plenum had its last session on Thursday before breaking up for a summer recess.
In addition to Austria, the agreement on a new financial assistance programme through the ESM must also be ratified by the parliaments of Germany, Netherlands, Slovakia, Estonia and Finland.
