Greek parties approve following emergency procedure in plenum for gov't proposal
Greek parties approved by a majority on Friday the request by Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos to hold an emergency procedure on the forthcoming debate on the government’s proposal submitted to the institutions last night.
The proposal being discussed in parliamentary committees authorizes the Greek negotiating team to negotiate to achieve a new loan agreement.
Governing coalition partners SYRIZA and ANEL, along with New Democracy, Potami and PASOK voted in favour of the draft bill, while Golden Dawn and the Communist Party voted against it.
Finance Minsietr Euclid Tsakalotos clarified that it is the government who is asking parliament to authorize the Greek negotiating team and that no such request was made by the institutions. “I never said anyone asked us to do it. The government asked it,” he noted.
The debate is continuing with statements by the party rapporteurs.
