Greece to send proposals shortly; parliament to decide on document on Friday

The proposal will be sent by email to Eurogroup chief Jeroen Dijsselbloem, who will in turn sent it to the finance ministers of the Eurozone member-states and the institutions.

The document will then be submitted tonight to parliament, so that on Friday, lawmakers will be asked, through emergency procedures, to approve the proposal and authorize the government to negotiate with the country’s lenders, based on its content.

After the negotiation is concluded, the final document will be submitted to parliament for approval, making it a state law.

According to the sources, the aim is to send a message abroad that the government is using this proposal which has been accepted as a basis for discussions at the Eurogroup. In this way, the objections raised abroad on the decisiveness of the government to move ahead will be answered, the same sources noted.

Asked on the document, the sources said the government’s belief is that the Greek proposal responds to the message of Sunday’s referendum, which called for a sustainable agreement that creates prospects for the Greek economy, as it includes the issue of a debt write-down to make it sustainable.

They also maintained that the proposal, which indeed includes some difficult points, is a proposal with which the government can achieve an honorable compromise with its European partners, by including elements that allow for the resolution of various problems of the Greek economy.

With those issues in mind, a joint meeting of ruling SYRIZA's Parliamentary group and the party's Political Secretariat will be held on Friday morning.
