Irish FinMIn Noonan says debt restructuring 'part of negotiations with Greece'
Irish Finance Minister Michael Noonan, in a doorstep statement as he arrived for Tuesday's Eurogroup meeting on Greece, said that Ireland considers debt restructuring a part of the negotiations with Greece.
He noted that Ireland has never adopted a tough approach to the issue of Greece and expressed hope that the proposal that Greece will present on Tuesday will be a formal application for a new programme, "which is a sustainable approach".
"We want Greece to remain in the eurozone with a sustainable and medium-term programme," he said.
At the same time, he didn't think decisions would be reached on Tuesday.
"There is a lot to do in a very short period of time, so I don’t think we’re looking at a conclusion today. But I hope there’s proper engagement," he said.
