The opposition Potami party on Friday accused Greece's Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis of planning to introduce an electronic "parallel" currency along the lines of bitcoin in Greece, pointing to Varoufakis' statement that "the problem is paper money".

According to Potami, this was just the tip of the iceberg and the minister had a complete study on such a project posted on his blog since February 2014.

"He envisions that it could be exchanged for commercial purposes and used to pay off taxes. In this way, a message will be sent to Brussels, the European Central Bank's headquarters in Frankfurt and to Berlin," the party said, claiming that the minister's "brainwave" was responsible for Greece's "Waterloo" at the negotiations.
