Some "voices" in Europe continue to blame Greece on the refugee issue, Alternate Migration Min says
The Greek government is trying to rescue the tens of thousands of desperate refugees and migrants arriving on the Aegean islands, but some "voices" in Europe continue to blame Greece, Alternate Minister for Migration Policy Yiannis Mouzalas said on Thursday in statements to Praktorio 104.9 FM.
Mouzalas underlined that "the problem is not Greek, but a European one."
Despite the bad weather and 6-7 on the Beaufort scale winds blowing in the Aegean, refugee flows from the Turkish coast increase rather than decrease, he said, and stressed that Greece has assumed enormous responsibilities, much more than it ought to do.
Asked about the conditions on the North Aegean islands and the reception centres, he described them as satisfactory and said that the government is also trying to improve them.
However, he reiterated that Greece cannot accommodate these tens of thousands of people arriving every week to the islands and that the flow cannot be controlled only from Greece, nor can they be trapped in Greece.
