Justice ministry says press reports on Korydallos prison are misleading
Press reports presenting disgraceful living conditions at the hospital inside Korydallos prison are misleading, the Justice ministry said in a press release on Tuesday, adding that conditions have visibly improved but much remains to be done.

"For some time now, a systematic attempt at misinformation has been underway around the prison hospital of Korydallos,” the ministry said. "Unidentified individuals make posts on the Internet and some media are quick to adopt the accusations without evidence, recycling news for the sake of sensationalism.”

The ministry went on to clarify that although conditions need to improve, staff has been employed at the hospital and no patient sleeps on the floor. It also added that any patient requiring more serious exams or medical care is transferred to a regular hospital.

“The exploitation of human suffering, of the prisoners-patients at the altar of sensationalism is verging on vulgarity,” the ministry said, adding that the chronic neglect of the prison system cannot be reversed in a couple of days, but needs systematic interventions and changes.
