'Too much fuss about nothing,’ says ANEL spokeswoman on conscription for women
The reactions caused by the opposition on the proposals made by Independent Greeks (ANEL) party leader Panos Kammenos on introducing conscription for women is “too much fuss about nothing”, the party’s spokeswoman Marina Chrysoveloni told a TV station on Tuesday.

Kammenos, who is National Defence Minister, said in an interview with Greek newspaper Ethnos on Sunday that women who want to join the police, the fire brigade or the coast guard should go through military training first. He also proposed voluntary military service for all other women, as well as the introduction of military high schools.

“It was the externalization of a thought by the Minister of National Defence; it has not proceeded further than that,” she told Mega TV channel, adding that if and when this thought turns into a plan, then there will be a full briefing of the prime minister and a debate at the cabinet.
