PM Tsipras in Brussels for the EU Council summit

Ahead of the European Council summit, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Wednesday, during his visit to Chios, sent the message that Greece has managed to meet its commitments amid difficult conditions and it is now the turn of the other EU member states to do the same.

Tsipras, who is in Brussels on Thursday, will meet with the Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu at 10:20 and at 11:00 he will participate in a meeting of EU member states with Turkey. He will also have a private meeting with British Prime Minister David Cameron at 15:30 and then he will participate in the meeting of the European Council which starts at 16:00.

The refugee issue and the conversion of Frontex to a European Border Guard and Coast Guard will dominate the meetings. Greece welcomes the help on its marine borders, but stressed the importance of taking place with the consent of the member state concerned. Moreover, Athens is against joint operations with third countries, but in favour of coordinated operations with them.
