Two reported dead in latest shipwreck involving migrants and refugees in Aegean

At least two people have died in the latest sinking of a vessel carrying migrants and refugees from the shores of Turkey to the Greek island of Lesvos, authorities reported on Wednesday.

A wooden boat carrying an unknown number of people capsized at 14:00 in waters off the coast of Mithimna, two miles north of the harbour.

Two dead bodies have so far been recovered, along with roughly 60 people rescued and taken to the Molyvos harbour on Lesvos. The number of missing remains unknown, as Greek coast guard and Frontex forces, assisted by rescue organisations, have launched a search and rescue operation in the area.
