Debate on draft bill for same sex civil partnerships begins in Parliament
Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Administration, Public Order and Justice on Monday began debating draft legislation that extends civil partnerships to same sex couples, giving them rights under family law in the same way as for heterosexual unions.
A ministerial decree will grant same sex couples the right to inheritance, social insurance coverage and pension rights from each other, as well as all the rights given to public-sector employees related to spouse and family.
The legislation makes no provision, however, for either adoption by same sex couples or civil marriages.
The draft law also includes measures that allows prison sentences for mothers of underage children to be converted to house arrest, allowing them to be with their children.
