Greek police rescues 40 Iraqi nationals abandoned on beach in northern Greece

Forty Iraqi nationals, including 18 children, were located by Greek police at a beach in the area of Neos Marmaras in the Chalkidiki peninsula, northern Greece, on Friday.

The migrants said they had been abandoned by the trafficker, a Turkish national.

According to their testimonies to the police, the migrants left the northern coast of Turkey on a boat and when they approached Chalkidiki, the trafficker, who remains at large, dropped them off on the beach of Koutsoupia and left.

All migrants are well in their health and have been detained at the local police station. Police also said none of them had any travel documents.
